Jade Masson-Wong and Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels to fight for title at BFL 65

Couple of days ago, we learned that Jade Masson-Wong had signed with BFL and that a fight announcement was imminent. Today, MMASucka reported that Jade Masson-Wong and Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels were scheduled to fight for the title at BFL 65.

In fact, both women will participate in the promotion’s first ever pro Women’s title bout on the February 8 card. Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels has fought two out of her three pro bouts for Battlefield Fight League. She defeated Coralie Dixon in her pro debut at BFL 54 before defeating Christina Ricker at BFL 57. She then signed with TKO were she defeated Corinne Laframboise by third round rear-naked choke at TKO 48.

That fight was quite special as Jamey-Lyn had some difficulties on the feet against the grappler Laframboise even though she was considered as the better standup fighter of the two. Horth-Wessels ended up winning the fight on the ground by submission against the decorated BJJ practitioner.

Horth Wessels was briefly linked to a fight with Mandy Bohm, who defeated Masson-Wong on the TKO 48 card, but there was never a date announced for it. With TKO’s postponement of their activities until 2020, Jamey-Lyn will return home to the promotion where she fought most of her career.

Jamey-Lyn has already won a BFL belt in her amateur career by defeating Shawna Ram before turning pro. She will look to be the first women to be crowned BFL Women’s champion as a professional.

It will not be Jade Masson-Wong’s first title fight. Hell, it will not even be the first time she is involved in a “first time ever Women’s title bout.” Like I said earlier, she fought Mandy Bohm in a losing effort at TKO 48 and that bout was for the first ever TKO Women’s championship.

She will try to make good on her second chance to be the first ever Women’s champion, this time for BFL. She will make her way to enemy territory on February 8 with the intent of returning to the win column after her first ever loss and securing the gold in the process.

Before losing to Bohm, Masson-Wong collected a 3-0 pro record with notable wins over Maggie Poulin and Corinne Laframboise. All of her fights were disputed under the TKO banner.

The BFL 65 card takes place on February 8, 2020 in Vancouver, BC. Another fighter from Quebec will fight for a belt against a local guy as Julien Leblanc faces Dejan Kajic for the 175lbs title.
