Montreal’s own Felicia Spencer will get the chance to challenge for a UFC title at UFC 250 against the champ champ Amanda Nunes! The event is set for May 9, 2020 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be headlined by a Bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo.
Spencer called for a title shot after her most recent win against Zarah Fairn at UFC Norfolk. It was her first win since she was defeated by Cris Cyborg in a very interesting back and forth contest. In fact, Spencer came out of that fight with a way higher profile even though she lost. She gave Cyborg a run for her money and was never really close to being finished in that fight. Before that, she came over from Invicta as the champion and defeated Megan Anderson, who was also gunning for a title shot, by first round submission.
Amanda Nunes has been the most dominant figure in Women’s MMA since she defeated Miesha Tate in the main event of the UFC 200 card. She since has defeated every women who has ever held a UFC championship at 145, 135 and even 125 if we exclude Nicco Montano (who will probably never get to another title fight again). She won the Featherweight championship with an historical 51 seconds KO of Cris Cyborg, who was mainly considered as the Women’s MMA GOAT at that moment. She also defeated the other consensus GOAT, Ronda Rousey, in less than a minute back in 2016.
The Canadian now residing in Florida will get the chance to try and defeat the best Women’s fighter of all time and write her name in the history books.
