UFC Sao Paulo Matchmaker

UFC Sao Paulo Review and Matchmaker

Here is my review of the UFC on ESPN+ 22 card that took place on Saturday November 16 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It’s yet again a card we don’t have much things to say about! It was decision-filled and those fights were just not the greatest. The worst thing is that the most boring fight on the card was probably the main event between Jan Blachowicz and Jacare Souza. We got to see a lot of cage clinching and a lot of distance low power kickboxing but nothing more.

I play matchmaker to try and see who could be fighting who next after that event:

Jan Blachowicz: Let’s say it like it is, Blachowicz is just not getting a title shot with that lackluster win. Furthermore, the Jones vs Reyes fight seems to be close to getting booked so the fighter from Poland will have to fight at least one more time and win if he hopes to get a title shot. The best way to go for him would be a matchup with top contender Anthony Smith.

Jacare Souza: Even though the fight was awful, Jacare did way better than Rockhold and Weidman in his Light Heavyweight debut. I even think his style as a slow paced power puncher who wants to clinch against the cage to take you down fits the division pretty well. He’s just aging and won’t be able to beat the elite fighters at that weight, like he couldn’t beat the elite Middleweights before moving up. He could still have a fun Light Heavyweight run with the good matchups and on of these matchups is absolutely Paul Craig.

Shogun Rua: Shogun doesn’t look good but he still finds a way to win, or at least to not lose most of his fights. If he’s gonna continue fighting, just give him Chris Weidman to see if he’s gonna get KO’d by him too.

Charles Oliveira: In a night of mediocre fighting, Charles Oliveira once again showed why he is one of the most lethal finishers in MMA when he knocked Jared Gordon out in the very first round. It’s just time to see him fight against fellow contenders as he is a top 10 fighter in the Lightweight division. His willingness to strike would make a matchup with Dan Hooker a fight not to miss.

Markus Perez: After a pretty good Joker impression at the weigh ins, Perez tried an Anderson Silva impression in the cage and he looked like shit! With his stock way down, I would like to see him against the winner of Barriault vs Park in Busan.

James Krause & Randy Brown: There were four finishes on the card and two of them were by Welterweights James Krause and Randy Brown. It would just be greta if they fought eachother next!

Renan Barao: Can we all agree that we don’t want to see Barao fight anymore?

Other fights to book:

Francisco Trinaldo vs Arman Tsarukyan, Bobby Green vs Mairbek Taisumov, Warlley Alves vs Jordan Mein, Douglas Silva de Andrade vs Gabriel Benitez, Sergio Moraes vs Alan Jouban, Ricardo Ramos vs Charles Woodson, Jared Gordon vs Damir Hadzovic, Vanessa Melo vs Tonya Evinger, Wellington Turman vs Jack Marshman, Ariane Lipski vs Tracy Cortez, Andre Muniz vs Deron Winn, Eduardo Garagorri vs Giga Chikadze, Antonio Arroyo vs Roman Kopylov, Isabela de Padua vs Hannah Goldy
